Bento

I love making Bento lunches for my girl. I don't usually get too "out there" with creativity, but yesterday was a good one!

*Homemade Red Pepper Hummus (Mathilda really enjoyed helping me make this in the food processor) with peanut eyes/nose, tomato mouth and lettuce hair.

*Yellow & orange bell pepper spears and cherry tomatoes for dipping

*Mini pita sandwich- roast beef

*Not pictured: Cheddar Goldfish, a clementine and bottled water

Hairdo for the ball

My hubby and I are attending his annual men's club debutante ball Saturday evening. It is a very formal ball, and we usually have a wonderful time. It begins very sedate with white gowns and Texas dips, and usually moves on to a rowdy drunken dance party with a fab, fun band.

I'm wearing a black gown (I know, real original). Hopefully I can post some pictures after the weekend.

I am struggling with deciding on a hairstyle since I cut my hair shorter than usual. I am thinking of something like this...

Fall/Winter Fragrance

There is a chill in the air, even here in Texas. And that means it's time to break out the cool weather fragrances. For me that means a woody oriental. Last fall my sweet husband bought me a bottle of Tom Ford Black Orchid. Despite the name, it's really not floral at all. It is deep and dark with mainly sandalwood and patchouli notes on my skin.

Alas, the bottle is almost empty, so I need a new fragrance. My plan is to go to Sephora and smell some new ones. I am interested in the new Juicy Couture called Couture Couture. I'd also like to try Viktor & Rolf's Flowerbomb.

What is your favorite cool weather fragrance?

Hard Candy @ Walmart

Recessionista over at Nouveau Cheap found the new Hard Candy line at her local Walmart. Hard Candy was previously a higher end line, widely known for their funky nail polish colors (back before every brand had outrageous color offerings).

Top 10 Drugstore Makeup Items

Here is a list of my top ten favorite makeup items from the drugstore!

(I had planned to make a video, and still might. But I refuse to film myself with the giant stress zit that has overtaken my poor nose.)

*Keep in mind that most of these items can be procured at a bargain price by waiting for a BOGO. If you are patient, CVS or Walgreens will usually feature the major brands within a 1-2 month period.*

10. Styli Style 24 Hour Power Line & Seal Liner

This liner is pretty good. As good as my MakeupForEver and Stila long-wearing liners on my oily lids. Basically, I am never satisfied with a liner pencil...I will keep looking....

9. Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation

As far as drugstore foundations go, I really like this one by Rimmel. The texture is nice--your skin shows through, just nicer. Love the smell, as I do most Rimmel products. (Note to Rimmel---make a fragrance!)

8. New York Color Liquid Liner

This is a great liquid liner for only about $2. I find it really easy to use and faster than a gel liner.

7. Revlon Eyelash Curler

I think eyelash curlers are very personal---meaning they must fit the shape of your eye. I've used Revlon's since high school, and I always go back to it after straying. I think it just fits my eye.

6. Rimmel Lipstick

Again, Rimmel gets me with their scent. But, I also really like the feel of these. I only wish the color selection was a bit wider at my local stores.

5. Cover Girl Eyeshadow Trio in Shimmering Sands

I had not used CG shadow in quite a while, when I heard Sarah (of Bella Makeup) rave about this trio. And she is right---it's really great. Well pigmented and the perfect neutrals! I have tried other CG trios/quads, but none compare to Shimmering Sands.

4. Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Color

I blogged about this awesome new formula here.

And this week Walgreens is offering BOGO FREE on it. Plus, my Walgreens gave me 2 $1 off coupons to add to my purchase! I got two lipsticks for less than $5!

3. NYX Lip Gloss with Mega Shine

Love this stuff! Did a video about it! Cheap and fabulous!!!

2. Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara

Really good stuff. Very volumizing! Look for it in sets and at Costco to save a little $!

1. Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara

This is my new favorite! It reminds me of my old "Holy Grail" mascara---the long gone Illegal Lengths (also Maybelline). Crazy length, but can be spidery. I like this in combination with the Lash Blast.
